The mission is as always to put a spotlight on artists who make good music!
There are so many musicians out there who, in my point of view, dont get enough coverage from magazines.  

My first interview guest is James Ciphurphace from Tucson Arizona.

Seff Wrights: Hi James. Its been a while since we last connected. How are you doing?

James Ciphurphace: I'm doing good...still breathing...still smilin'...still rhymin'...still drinkin' my coffee every morning...still eatin' organic chicken for dinner...still rockin' a GoodBeard...still givin' wack emcees the Ciphurphace!

Seff Wrights: Visiting your myspace page the other day i noticed how many free downloads you have on there. Let me ask you some questions though before we talk about the albums. Why Free Downloads?

James Ciphurphace: I feel that giving away some of your material as a free download provides a good balance to the product repertoire of an artist. Every artist has their own special loyal fan base who will support them 100% 24/7/365 by purchasing product. These supporters deserve some free product here & there. Free downloads can also help to acquire a new fan base...the cat who didn't want to pay $10 for a cd downloads a free LP and digs it. This same cat may come back and purchase some product the next go around.

Seff Wrights: Please share your thoughts concerning illegal downloads.

James Ciphurphace: It's a harsh reality of the recording industry. I think it affects the major signed artists and the well established indy artists more so than any other artist because it affects a portion of their revenue. For the up & coming no-name artists or underground artists it can be a benefit because it exposes their music to a larger percentage of the multitude. People love free music and they will do anything they can to get it. This is unfortunate for a lot of artists. I don't think there is a way to completely monitor and control illegal downloads. It will always exist as long as the internet exists and I don't think it will be going anywhere any time soon.

Seff Wrights: Youre currently working on?

James Ciphurphace: Finishing up the new sophomore Effin' Sumbodies LP - Straight Outta Tucson - be on the lookout for the first single 'Sumbodies Gonna Hurt Someone' produced by Scorpioflo. I'm also working on my official sophomore LP 'Apply Within' - follow up to 'An Honest Day's Work' and 'Time & A Half: The Overtime EP'. Got some serious bang city joints on this project. First single is called 'How To MC' produced by Koncept Jones with a b-side bang city joint called 'Maker' produced by the homies Nate & Zack Beat Productions. Be on the lookout for the video for both those tracks also. And I currently have a new joint out now which will also be on the album. It's called 'Just A Microphone Check' produced by Scorpioflo. I'm constantly working on various guest feature collabos here and there also. I have an exclusive project out NOW! with a producer here in Tucson named Tone Def aka "The Rick Rubin of the Southwest". Ee took 8 songs off this album my crew & I put out called 'The Effin' Sumbodies - Cactus Stew' and Tone basically cooked up the organic version of these tracks. CIPHURPHACE & SCORPIOFLO PRESENT TIME & A HALF: THE OVERTIME EP

This is a follow up ep to my debut LP 'An Honest Day's Work' - it basically contains remixes of various songs off that album - all produced entirely by the ill boom-bap beatsmith Scorpioflo hailing from the (505) - Albuquerque, NM - after connecting with this ill producer, he became a member of the collective 'The Effin' Sumbodies' and I thought it would be dope to hear some of my previous work over different production.

Antique Skies Revisited is basically the original Antique Skies LP remastered with some additional bonus tracks.

Well, Antique Skies was the prelude to 'An Honest Day's Work' - I recorded over 40 songs for my debut solo LP and A.S. was basically a collection of songs that did not make it on the Honest Day's Work album...the whole concept of Antique Skies is 'atmosphere of the past' - I took it back to the days when hip-hop was all about the music...raw beats and rhymes. Taking you back to the atmosphere of the past so to speak.

CIPHURPHACE - SOUTH 'NotTheDirtySouthEastCoastNotTheWestCoast' WEST'

This project is basically a collection of some unreleased songs, b-sides, and 'I don't know where the hell that song came from type' of songs.

Change of Blak Watr/Modern Organic Collective presents his debut LP - features Ciphurphace on 'Just Buy The Damn CD'

Change is the homey from Cali (San Diego area). One of the coolest cats to roam this earth and very talented artist. I met him when he came to Tucson for a Mic Fights battle and we kept in touch ever since. Trading shows here and there. Went on tour together. The artist connection was there so he threw out the invite to rock a joint on his new album and of course I graciously accepted. We recorded a track called 'Just Buy The Damn CD'. It was produced by the one & only Scorpioflo. It's a fun track, feelgood joint.

The birth of this project manifested itself from an idea that was conceived on a message board here in Arizona called ArizonaBeats.com (What's up Blaze Rock!) - some artists threw out the notion of putting together a mixtape with artists from Arizona. Cats submitted tracks and they were selected by a panel of hip-hop connoisseurs. This was Vol. 1 and it was a digital release only.
